e-file FAQs

We Offer More Than Just Doing Your Taxes

e-file FAQs

Our experience with e-filing tax returns over the past few years has been very positive. Therefore, beginning this year we will prepare all individual income tax returns (Forms 1040) for filing electronically with the IRS.

Below are frequently asked questions and answers.

What do I gain by e-filing my tax return? Accuracy.  Proof of Acceptance. Faster Refunds.

Will I be charged a fee for e-filing? No. We offer this service as a courtesy to our clients.

How do I sign my tax return that is being electronically filed? Our tax software will automatically assign your tax return with a Personal Identification Number (PIN) that will act as your signature. Once your tax return is ready to e-file, you will sign Form 8879 authorizing us to e-file your tax return with the pre-assigned PIN as your signature.

Will I still get a copy of my tax return? Yes. We are required by law to provide you with a copy.

How do I know that the IRS really has my return? The IRS notifies us of their receipt within 48 hours of transmission. Once we receive this confirmation, we will mail a copy of the confirmation to you.

Do I have a greater chance of getting audited by the IRS if I e-file? No. The chance of an audit of an e-filed return is no greater than with a paper return.

Do I really get my refund faster? With e-filing you should expect the refund in half the time as paper filing. It’s even faster and safer if you have your refund deposited directly to your bank account.

If I choose direct deposit, how do I know my refund has been deposited?  We will provide you with an estimated date that you can expect your refund to be deposited. Check with your bank to confirm the deposit has arrived.

How can I check the status of my refund?  Visit our website at www.msfllp.com and go to Track Refund. This will take you to the Tax Refund Tracker. You will be required to enter your social security number (if a joint return, enter the first social security number listed on the return), filing status, and amount of the refund. The Tax Refund Tracker can be used whether you e-file or paper file your tax return.

If I owe, how do I pay my taxes? You can authorize an electronic funds withdrawal from your checking or savings account at the time your tax return is electronically prepared. You can e-file early and schedule your payment for withdrawal on a future date. Payments scheduled for withdrawal on or before the return due date will be considered timely. OR You can mail a voucher provided by us along with your check.

What are the benefits of paying by electronic funds withdrawal? You chose the date of the electronic withdrawal. For payments to be considered timely, the payment should be scheduled for withdrawal on or before the due date. You don’t need to remember to mail a check. It’s simple. All we need from you is a voided check. You just need to be sure the funds are available in the account.

Are there additional charges for electronic funds withdrawal? No.

Is it safe to pay by electronic funds withdrawal? Yes. Only authorized withdrawals can be made. No other funds can legally be withdrawn.

What information will I need to provide to use direct deposit or automatic funds withdrawal?
We will need a voided check for the account you wish to have your refund deposited or payment made from.

Am I required to e-file my tax return?  No. If you prefer not to e-file, let us know. However, we cannot provide confirmation that the IRS has received your tax return if you choose to file on paper.
